FIRST THINGS FIRST—
Submit a simple inquiry! Found here…
WHAT’S NEXT?
Then you can expect an email back to set up a consultation call and the information to submit your sample edit piece. This sample edit is complimentary and has a limit of 1000 words. This sample is intended to give you an idea of my feedback style and ensure we are a good fit.
Our Process
-
Inquiry & Consultation
Inquiries are submitted here and an author will recieve an email in return to submit their sample edit of 1000 words. Then you will receive your edited sample back and we will schedule a call to chat all things YOUR book, your publishing goals, and editing focus! This call is via Zoom or Discord and is one hour of time for you to discuss anything and everything you’d like. It is just the start of our open line of communication!
-
Contract, Deposit, and Payment
After our consultation call, we will have discussed a project start date and a tentative contract will be drafted (which will not be signed until final word count is submitted to Lines and Lore Editorial). If booking more than 30days ahead of time, there is a $50 deposit that is required to hold your slot. This is applied to your overall total in the end.
Payment options include a variety of methods via an invoice that will be sent to your email. Among these options in Klarna, a third party which allows clients to set up payment plan options. Payment is secured up to thirty days prior to project start date, and no more than two days after start date. Any questions are welcome!
-
Project Start
Manuscripts should be sent to the email provided in the contract prior to the contract start date.
They should be in a google doc, (or word doc if agreed), formatted in standard Times New Roman (or similar) font, size 12pt, and double-spaced. A Title Page is helpful as well as any other relevant info, maps, glossary etc.
Jac-Ann Marie (Lines and Lore Editorial Editor) will leave in-line comments with initial feedback clients are welcome to follow along with! It is not recommended to make edits based off of these initial comments as feedback may shift as the story develops. But it can be entertaining for authors to check out! An open line of communication is always kept open for questions or commentary as well.
Updates can also be provided if a client chooses to take space from the manuscript during the editing process.
-
Completion
When the in-line editing is complete, the editor compiles all of the actionable feedback, observations, and suggestions into an Editorial Summary. Most editors deliver a 10+ page essay-style document broken down into sections, Lines and Lore differs here. The Editorial Letter will be a navigable resource including what can only be described as a “book bible” with sections of theme, tone, characters, romance, world building, chapter summaries and suggestions, resources including YouTube videos relevant to feedback and text-based resources and then summarizing questions and thoughts. This is an EXPANSIVE document, broken up into sections to focus on for the author. Lines and Lore is working on approval for posting a previous clients Editorial Feedback Letter as an example so stay tuned!
After you review this Editorial Letter, we will schedule a follow-up call to discuss! This can be upwards of an hour-long call and even can be broken up into two separate calls if need be. A line of communication stays open after the final call as well.
WHAT SETS US APART
Feedback is in-depth and provided in an approachable manner. Jac-Ann Marie is an introvert at heart with a bit of social anxiety (or maybe a lot), and so interactions tend to be ramble-y, and while she maintains a professional tone, it can make it feel a little less scary when your editor goes off on a side-quest tangent! All in the name of teaching writing craft, editing, or publishing knowledge, though!
Another difference is our expansive Editorial Letter that includes navigable sections. This is especially helpful for new authors and pantsers. The hope in providing the document in this manner is to allow the author to track their story per sections and markup after Lines and Lore has finished. The document provides similar feedback as other editors, but in a different format that authors might find helpful.
